Austin-area Chili’s restaurants unite to support workforce, training, and future of hospitality industry
Austin-area Chili's to donate proceeds on 3rd Monday of every month through 2019
In a united front to grow and support the future of Texas’ booming hospitality industry, 17 Central Texas Chili’s restaurants are hosting an ongoing, monthly fundraiser, donating 15% of total sales for those who redeem a designated flyer (digital or hard copy) on the third Monday of each month through the end of next year to the Texas Restaurant Association Education Foundation (TRAEF).
The funds raised will be used to help support upcoming TRAEF projects for the year, which serve the education and workforce needs of the entire Texas industry. Upcoming projects include a new job board, workforce conference, innovative mentorships between new restaurants and industry veterans, and various school grants among other initiatives. The TRAEF’s most well-known program, Texas ProStart – a culinary curriculum based in more than 250 Texas high schools and the largest program of its kind in the country, will also benefit.
Texas ProStart is credited with providing a vital link between schools and restaurants. Currently, the program impacts more than 25,000 students throughout the state and helps to provide a robust hiring pool for Texas hospitality employers.
In order for TRAEF to receive the benefit, diners must present a paper flyer or present a link on their phone to their server. Diners can present this page, or any of the Facebook event pages set up for the give back event.
Chris Bell, General Manager of Chili’s at Southpark Meadows, is very proud to launch the initiative, and hopes that others in the industry will follow through with similar campaigns. “Having our roots in Texas for more than 40 years, we know all about growth and how important it is to foster an educated and thriving workforce. We have benefited from hiring Texas ProStart graduates for years, and they consistently excel as key members of our team. We are honored to be partnering with the TRAEF to support all the outstanding work they do to strengthen our industry.”
“We are thrilled with this partnership because it gets everyone involved at many different levels,” says Steph Smith, TRAEF director of strategic partnerships. “From restaurant staff, to the general public, it’s an opportunity to have everyone participate, get excited, and learn more about TRAEF projects and programs. Together, we can make a huge impact in the industry.”
“We wanted to keep the model simple – and just encourage people to do what they love to do – eat out. Bring a flyer or show your phone and simply dine at one of the participating Chili’s on the third Monday of the month, and you will be supporting the programs of the TRAEF,” says Smith.
